This is may be an odd pledge to some. It is pledged in love because I am positive a difference can be made for many. Today I pledge a way to downsize in my own life to be able to help others. And I pledge to help those in need help to find ways to make a difference in their lives including the difference between a "lifestyle" of need as opposed to a "once in a lifetime need." There is a difference. When going through a difficult time we begin considering what to do first,well,it seems we all have a "greatest need." What is our greatest need? That need reveals itself when we sit down to be honest with ourselves. Sometimes that is for counseling to discover a plan,sometimes it's just to sit down and straight up prioritize your live. Prioritizing your life can mean different things for different people. Let me give you a simple example:A bottle of Pepsi (or whatever)a 2 ltr can cost about $1.30.Yet a small bottle of Pepsi (20 oz.) can cost the same. If this situation were prioritized in a life of someone having financial problems you might think they should buy the 2 ltr. But the TRUTH is the $1.30 should NOT be spent. Not in a home where there are needs that are things like food,rent,energy needs,christmas gifts. That's honest prioritizing. The same goes for cigarettes. They are so expensive ,cause cancer,etc. yet there was a time that I believed they HELPED me,believed I NEEDED them. One day I saw the truth..I was lying to myself. They didn't help me,they hurt me and the children. When I prioritized my life I stopped using excuses for smoking and simply STOPPED. And I never had a cigarette again because I don't smoke. That was in 1990. More money was then there for the children ,bills, etc. (I smoked all the time) At today's prices of cigarettes if a poor person put that money away and stopped smoking,they'd be prioritizing their life. I said all that to say this - Prioritize. Put your greatest need first. Be honest with yourself about how to save money. If you or someone you know has a smoking,drug,gambling or alcohol problem help them understand how they are stealing from their children and even themselves. And they MUST get help! If you are in the position to take action and get this person help do it today! It will be the best gift you could ever give anyone,including yourself. Addicted is like a leech on you for life . It will not EVER help you and won't make you happy. But you can by quitting what's wrong and doing what's right. If this is not your first rodeo during the holidays then you already know where to find help and though there can be new help some years,the biggest help you will ever find is in prioritizing and stopping whatever causes the problem. HONESTLY,Christmas is at the same time every year. Is there no point that you understand you will always,as a parent need to LQQK AHEAD? It is part of parenting. Take it seriously. You owe this much to yourself as well as those children you say you care about! You can get angry with me but please remember,Thanksgiving and Christmas come at the same time every year.You have to plan ahead from July to have anything left by Christmas. This does NOT include disabled parents who well understand there is never enough! Pass this message onto others.It can change their life if they listen. You know,the "are you crazy" stare. (and yes,it helps to be at least a wee bit crazy!) For those who believe in God let me help you a little on this subject concerning God and His plan: There is a blessing in helping others ! For those who have no interest in finding JOY it's ok to move on to another site here at AIDMATE.COM,I know there are non-christians who get irritated at a posting by a christian and we don't want that. Please remember we wish you love,joy,peace and understanding also. It's ok to stay though. I don't speak what I call "christianese",that means there is so much religious jargon that you can barely make out the point of the conversation. To me God is the owner of a hospital for sinners,not a museum for saints.(A Saint,I ain't!) But I love God and must share.He does make a difference in lives every minute of the day. OK! Here we go, First you need to be willing to "think outside your situation." Consider the person in your life who is going through MORE than you are and you just wish you could help. Offer them a positive attitude,a listening heart,help with the dishes, work with them to explore possibilities that just may be the answer they need. Can you help with the maintenence of a car (the type of help that does not require money like installing a part they already have or evaluation of a problem with the understanding you have no money to offer but you'd like to take a look at their car/truck for them? Who knows? Maybe you can find a way to keep them running through Christmas at least?) Are you someone who can safely care for a child to give a working,stressed out parent some free time when they are not working? Is there a chance you could add a little more milk to the macaroni and cheese and have them over for supper and chat without mentioning your own distress? (this will take a goal of self control,I understand) If they have snow and you have time could you at least shovel a small path to the mailbox especially for diabled ,elderly or sick neighbors? You don't have to say a word,just do it. In fact,it is fun trying not to get caught doing something good! (my children and I used to do this alot during the year) Do you know the neighbor has no washing machine and can only get to the laundry once a month? Do you know someone who is sick and has not been able to do family chores for a few days? Walk right in, start working,insist they find something to do besides ask you what you're doing. If there are too many dishes and YOU have a dishwasher ,rinse the dishes,pile them carefully in a clothes basket ,take them home,get them washed and return them,help put them away. Yes,this takes effort but even if you are having a little depression you will find this is an excellent use of time and friendship. And maybe someday when you are sick,someone will do this for you. It happens. I know. Because someone once did this for me when I was sick ! I felt so blessed ...and loved. Have you considered offering to launder the most needed clothing at no charge if you do have a washing machine? Explain of course they will need to provide the soap. If they insist they have no soap either then you may want to help them understand how to use SHAMPOO for clothing cleaning! If they have no shampoo make it a goal to say a prayer for them,sincerely,and watch that soap come in.It happens by faith. (First you fill the tub with water.Then you put shampoo in ,let it agitate and THEN put your clothing in. Do not overload,the clothing must have room in between the clothing for the water and soap to get in or it won't be able to clean!) Are you giving yourself the joy you deserve? It's not about being all wrapped up in yourself. JOY comes from the inside. YOU make it yourself .Free.
